FBI agents in riot gear get information from a Los Angeles Police Department police officer (R) as they head towards the Mexican consulate in Los Angeles, 09 November 2004. A hostage-taker was shot and wounded by police while trying to kidnap a female employee at the consulate, ending a two-hour diplomatic hostage drama. The woman was unharmed. The masked man, who officials said had demanded that police and media be called to the scene, had several handwritten placards hanging around his neck. The suspect was in critical condition in hospital as police SWAT teams scoured the consulate building floor by floor for possible accomplices. AFP PHOTO / Robyn BECK
