SYRIA - CONFLICT - IDLIB
A child watches as a local artist works on a mural painting showing the late Syrian rebel fighter Abdel-Basset al-Sarout in the town of Binnish in the jihadist-held northern Idlib province on June 8, 2019. The Syrian goalkeeper turned rebel fighter who starred in an award-winning documentary died of his wounds today aged 27 after fighting regime forces in northwest Syria, a monitor and his faction said.
Al-Sarout was a goalkeeper from the central city of Homs, who became its most popular singer of protest songs after Syrian uprising broke out in March 2011.
